Google’s Mobile Friendly algorithm

Google’s new Mobile-Friendly ‘Apocalyptic’ Algorithm is almost here!

Google is releasing a mobile-friendly algorithm which will serve as a ranking signal for your website.

It’s due for launch this April 21st.

And all the world’s gone mad, going so far as to call this launch the mobilepocalyse, mobilegeddon, mobocalypse or even mopocalypse.

So what is this mobile-friendly algorithm all about?

  1. The algorithm will have global impact on mobile searches

It will be rolled out on April 21st and will take no more than a few days to a week to reach completion internationally. Mobile searches in all languages will be affected and mobile search results will be influenced considerably.

  1. It will be released in real time

The algorithm will run in real time meaning you can make necessary changes to your website when you can. Once the amendments have been effected, Google will pick up on the modifications and will mark your site as mobile-friendly straight away which means it will benefit from the algorithm instantly.

  1. The algorithm will be rolled out on a page by page basis

It is essential that all of your web pages are friendly. However, should only 3 out of 6 for example be mobile-friendly with the remainder not, then only the 3 that are will gain from the algorithm.

  1. There’s no level of friendliness.

Your website has to be mobile-friendly in order to be ranked better in mobile search. There are no levels as to how mobile friendly your site is, it either is or it isn’t.

  1. How do I check for mobile friendliness?

One of the quickest ways to see whether your website is mobile-friendly is to check whether Google has added the mobile-friendly text label under your site’s URL on the SERP (search engine results page) in mobile search results. You can also use Google’s mobile-friendly testing tool which should match what appears in the live Google search results.
